CADC’s Speech at the Joint Holiday Party | by Selena Chu

Good evening friends, community leaders, and honored guests.

Tonight, we come together not just to celebrate an organization, but to celebrate a movement, a legacy, and a shared commitment to civic engagement and justice.

First, I want to congratulate the Chinese American Democratic Club (CADC) for its remarkable achievements. For decades, CADC has been a powerful voice for Chinese Americans in San Francisco, opening doors where none existed, nurturing new leaders, and ensuring our community is not only heard, but respected in the democratic process. From voter engagement to policy advocacy, CADC has helped shape a city that is more inclusive, more accountable, and more representative of the people who call it home.

This celebration is especially meaningful because it is a joint gathering of three pillars of our community:
the Chinese American Democratic Club,
the Ed Lee Asian Pacific Democratic Club, and
the Rose Pak Asian American Club.

Each club has its own history, identity, and strengths. Yet tonight, we stand together as one, united by shared values: fairness, opportunity, public service, and the belief that participation matters. This unity sends a powerful message: when our community works together, we are stronger, louder, and more effective.

We honor the leaders who came before us, including Mayor Ed Lee and Rose Pak, whose dedication laid the groundwork for so much of what we enjoy today. And we celebrate the next generation who will carry this work forward—with courage, collaboration, and compassion.

Tonight is not just about looking back at what we’ve achieved, but about reaffirming our commitment to the future. Together, these three clubs represent unity, resilience, and hope.

Congratulations to all three clubs, and thank you to all three clubs for showing San Francisco what collective leadership truly looks like.

Thank you, and let’s continue this work, together!
